Health access, health goals, and the Health tab

Updated July 29, 2026

Descreened reads Apple Health data for two things: the Health Goal unlock method and the Health tab. It only reads — it never writes to Health, and your health data never leaves your device.

Health goals for unlocking

With the Health Goal unlock method, you unlock by hitting a goal:

  • Workouts — 1 to 8 workouts
  • Exercise minutes — 5 to 120 minutes
  • Mindful minutes — 3 to 60 minutes
  • Steps — 500 to 15,000 steps
  • Active energy — 50 to 1,000 calories
  • Run — 0.5 to 13 miles

Progress counts from your last unlock, not from zero each time. So a 1,000-step goal means 1,000 new steps per unlock. Progress resets at midnight.

What the Health tab shows

The Health tab compares your phone use with your Apple Health data, day by day, entirely on your device. To do that, Descreened requests read access to sleep, heart rate, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, energy, steps, exercise time, walking and running distance, workouts, and mindful minutes.

Fixing health access

Descreened checks access by trying to read your data, so a denied permission can look like "no data yet."

To re-enable access:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps, then Health.
  3. Tap Data Access & Devices.
  4. Tap Descreened, then Turn On All.

Return to Descreened afterward — it rechecks automatically.

Tip: If your goal shows zero but you've been active, make sure your iPhone or Apple Watch is actually recording to Apple Health first. Descreened can only read what's there.
