Set up Descreened and block your first app
Updated July 29, 2026
Descreened blocks apps and websites using Apple's Screen Time. Setup takes about two minutes: allow Screen Time access, pick an unlock method, and lock your first apps.
Allow Screen Time access
- Open Descreened and tap Continue on the welcome screen.
- On the Allow Screen Time access step, tap Allow Access.
- Approve the iOS prompt. You'll see Access granted when it works.
Your Screen Time data stays on your device. If you skip this step, the Restrict tab shows an Allow Screen Time button — tap it any time.
Pick your unlock method
Next, choose what you must complete to unlock a locked app — push-ups, a walk, an NFC tag, and more. You can change it later. See unlock methods.
Then tap Start 3-day free trial to finish setup.
Lock your first apps
Open the Restrict tab. There are two ways to add things:
- Groups — tap the + next to GROUPS to create a group. Pick its apps and sites, then set one schedule and one shared daily limit for the whole group.
- Individuals — tap the + next to INDIVIDUALS, then choose Add app or Add website. Each item gets its own settings.
When a locked app opens, iOS shows a shield instead. Complete your unlock method in the Descreened app to unlock.
Next steps
- Set when blocking applies with schedules.
- Cap daily use with daily limits.
Tip: Start with one or two apps you check without thinking. Small, deliberate friction beats blocking everything at once.
